Quatre sculptures de métal portent en elles des voix, sur elles des empreintes, autour d'elles des musiques.​​

D’abord souffles indistincts à la marge, la polyphonie se construit pas à pas, jusqu’au centre, en liant des trames sonores selon la direction de l’une des quatre sculptures.

A portée de main des tabulae, la peau en contact avec les empreintes gravées dans le zinc, une voix, dans une langue, se laisse entendre. Des bribes d’un poème apparaissent, résonnent, disparaissent.

​

Si quatre personnes touchent les quatre tabulae, une polyphonie vocale se forme, composant le français, l’anglais, le néerlandais et l’allemand, ensemble, avec la polyphonie musicale qui vient des pas. Se retirant, des mains et des pieds, peu à peu la musique, elle aussi, se retire, car plus aucune information ne vient aux capteurs et au terminal informatique.

Monolithe archaïque, objet industriel sidérurgique, système interactif et numérique, il y a comme une longue histoire de la technique dans Tabula Vocis, quelque chose qui unit une série de gestes humains apparemment sans communication. Ce quelque chose est peut être l'ensemble des voix qui traversent les corps, les objets, les langues et qui se composent et se décomposent sans cesse.

Four metal sculptures carry voices within them, imprints upon them, and music around them.

First indistinct whispers at the edges, the polyphony builds step by step, towards the center, by linking soundscapes according to the direction of one of the four sculptures.

Within reach of the tabulae, skin in contact with the imprints engraved in the zinc, a voice, in a language, can be heard. Fragments of a poem appear, resonate, and disappear.

If four people touch the four tabulae, a vocal polyphony is formed, composing French, English, Dutch, and German together with the musical polyphony that comes from their footsteps. As they withdraw from the hands and feet, the music, too, gradually withdraws, because no more information reaches the sensors and the computer terminal.

 

Archaic monolith, industrial steelworks object, interactive and digital system—Tabula Vocis evokes a long history of technology, something that unites a series of seemingly uncommunicative human gestures. This something is perhaps the sum total of voices that pass through bodies, objects, and languages, constantly composing and decomposing.
