Phytoculture - ou la controverse de la Souterraine

Dans le cadre de l’événement OR-VERT, le pôle Design de la Cité Scolaire Raymond Loewy, invite Pascal Delétage (architecte, danseur et musicien), Ludovic Duhem (artiste, philosophe et enseignant) et Asaf Bachrach (Danseur et chercheur en sciences cognitives) à investir l’espace de conférence de La Souterraine.
La proposition consiste à se placer dans une fiction, celle d’une assemblée qui se réunirait pour statuer sur la “controverse de La Souterraine”. Cette controverse est apparue à la suite des découvertes scientifiques récentes sur les capacités insoupçonnées des plantes : sensibilité, mémoire, apprentissage, anticipation, communication, solidarité… ce qui permet de postuler qu’elles seraient “intelligentes”, et si c’est bien le cas, il deviendrait possible de se demander : “les plantes ont-elles une culture?”
Mais aussi étonnante que cette question puisse paraître alors que l’on a encore du mal à accorder une culture aux animaux autres que les êtres humains, la véritable controverse est d’une autre nature… Car la proposition de cet événement est de renverser le point de vue, c’est-à-dire de donner la parole aux plantes et de considérer qu’elles vont réunir une assemblée pour discuter d’une question décisive pour leur avenir : “les êtres humains ont-ils une culture?”
Pour constituer cette assemblée, les plantes se sont réparties en groupes ayant chacun leur position dans la discussion à venir (qui se déroule de 14h à 17h).

Les modalités de "prise de parole" sont autant en mots, qu'en gestes, en chants, en danses, en musiques, en silences.

As part of the OR-VERT event, the Design Department of the Raymond Loewy High School invites Pascal Delétage (architect, dancer, and musician), Ludovic Duhem (artist, philosopher, and teacher), and Asaf Bachrach (dancer and cognitive scientist) to take over the conference space in La Souterraine.
The proposal involves imagining a fictional assembly meeting to decide on the “La Souterraine Controversy.” This controversy arose following recent scientific discoveries about the unsuspected abilities of plants: sensitivity, memory, learning, anticipation, communication, solidarity… leading to the postulation that they might be “intelligent.” If this is indeed the case, it would become possible to ask: “Do plants have culture?”
But as surprising as this question may seem, given that we still struggle to grant culture to animals other than humans, the real controversy lies elsewhere… The aim of this event is to reverse the perspective, that is, to give plants a voice and to consider that they will convene an assembly to discuss a crucial question for their future: “Do human beings have culture?”
To form this assembly, the plants have divided themselves into groups, each with its own position in the upcoming discussion (which will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.).

The methods of "speaking out" are as much in words as in gestures, songs, dances, music, and silences.
